The New Regime.

Day three of the new regime, and I'm still on it. Admittedly it's only been three days, but that's two days longer than I suspected it would last.

A diet you ask? Exercise? No, it's a writing regime.

I awaken each morning at 5.30, and write for 90 minutes before going to work. I've found that after a day of dealing with kids and words, the evening is not the best time for me to write. Plus I enjoy my evenings, spending time with my wife. Later at night would be good, but I'm not really a late night person. I suffer for it the next day.

And so day three of 5.30 starts, and all is going well.

Speaking of which, I should get some writing done. Out.

Good luck with your writing workouts.

I find mornings best for writing too, hence the Arvo Job. Time out in the world tends to fill one's brain with mundane clutter and to sap the freshness from one's thoughts. However, with an hour or two of writing under your belt, once you venture forth, no matter what the world throws at you, you've already had a good day. Also you avoid that nagging voice that gets louder and more anxious if it looks like you might not be able to make it to the keyboard that day. It's a personal thing, though.

All true, Gitte. And while all these are reasons I'm doing this, the truth is the over-riding reason is the need to step up a level.

To be more professional.

To be more prolific.

To develop the skills I'm learning at workshops, through critiques and from my own reading.

To improve as a writer.

To sell, so my writing is more widely read.

To SFWA qualify (within a year, I hope)

TO make writing a habit, rather than a dut - which is what it can become when I'm tired.

It is a personal thing, but this is the way it works for me - and,it seems, similar to the way it works for you.
